In the UK, it is now recommended men should not consumer more than 14 units of alcohol a week. In the UK, 14 units are equivalent to 112g of pure alcohol. Compared to Australia, the official recommended intake of alcohol per day for men is less than two units of standard drink, i.e. 20g of alcohol or roughly about 200ml of red wine based on the assumption that the wine has an alcohol content of 13%.
Both the UK and Australia issued this revised recommendation to replace the guidelines made decades ago. By following these guidelines reduces the lifetime risk of harm from alcohol-relate disease or injury.
